ASDA Senior Manager, Publications Kim Kelly, writes, "The first issue of Mouth I ever read was the winter 2009 issue. The topic was 'access to care' and covered everything from special care dentistry to geriatric dentistry to access for migrant workers. ASDA hired me in 2008 to lay out ASDA News and Mouth. More than eight years later, I'm seeing the Editorial Board through a massive transition to discontinue these publications and launch a flagship magazine, Contour.
We're not discontinuing Mouth because it's broken. Rather, we're building upon what worked best in both ASDA News and Mouth. One of the things I love most about working with dental students is that they never quit when something is successful. They always push the envelope, try harder and challenge themselves to make a good publication even better. That's how Mouth won the Meskin Journalism Award from the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists in both 2014 and 2015.
Throughout my time working on Mouth, I've learned a lot about dentistry and the issues facing the profession. But I've also learned about dental student life and how the experiences shared through these four years of intense learning will shape you as a practitioner, a business person and a colleague."
