ASDA Guide to Postdoctoral Programs (Volumes 1, 2, and 3)
Postdoctoral dental specialty programs vary greatly in structure, emphasis and content, as well as in location, reputation and stipend. Updated in 2009, ASDA’s guides are designed to make the process of comparing graduate programs more efficient and convenient for all applicants, thus allowing students to easily pinpoint the programs most likely to satisfy their personal and professional requirements.
The guides contain comparative information about general practice residencies, advanced education in general dentistry and eight specialties: dental public health, endodontics, oral pathology, oral surgery, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and prosthodontics. The profiles in each of the three volumes include facts about application deadlines, stipends, starting dates, faculty, patient mix and how the resident’s time is spent.
After using the ASDA guides to initially screen programs, students are encouraged to contact institutions directly for more information and application materials. Most programs require separate applications and fees, as well as personal essays. Students are urged to visit as many programs as time and resources permit.
