Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: A Specialty with a Difference

Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) is the specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the bone and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. Lack of effective communication with school administration can often be a significant obstacle to improving your local chapter. Oftentimes, delays and difficulties can be avoided by opening communication channels among the administration, faculty and students. In this session, attendees will learn tools to develop action strategies to overcome the challenges that currently exist. One issue that provides the opportunity to work with your administration is the current trend by schools to limit or abolish Lunch & Learns. The Council on Education has created a guide for you to share with your administration on the benefits of Lunch & Learns. Council members will discuss effective solutions for changing the Lunch & Learn policies at your school as well as challenges. This session will also give you a chance to provide your input and share your experiences working within the policies at your school.
