Why do you want to be a dentist?
First and foremost, I love helping others and I have always been interested in healthcare. Dentistry is a unique profession. Working with patients, I have found that no day is like the one before. New challenges are encountered daily and being able to critically think about the treatment I provide for my patients is challenging, but simultaneously gratifying. I chose dentistry over other career paths because I love seeing changes in self-esteem as a result of improving one’s smile. I saw that change in myself, and I have seen it in numerous patients I have worked with. It’s amazing! I am honored and humbled to continue to be a part of that instrumental change in someone’s life.
What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
There are many qualities that are integral to successful leaders, however, I believe the most crucial is communication. Most can think of a time when they have worked with someone who had closed lines of communication and it can be a pain. Knowing this, I have learned what works and what doesn’t. In leading Iowa’s ASDA chapter, effective and open lines of communication is what I hope to employ throughout the 2018-2019 academic year to make our chapter as successful as possible.
