Hear dental students share their experiences and advice on non-traditional paths to dental school. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the panelists at the end.
Travis Barr, Colorado ‘16
During his junior year of college at University of Northern Colorado, Travis decided to pursue dental school. His first time applying was right out of college and he didn’t get an interview. It wasn’t until his sixth time applying, with various jobs, education and starting a family in between, that he was accepted to the University of Colorado.
Anthony Besse, Ohio ‘16
Anthony completed his undergraduate degree at Saint Louis University and applied to dental school right out of college. After learning that he wasn’t accepted, he decided to pursue a Master’s in public health, based on advice from an admissions committee. Upon completion of his MPH, he applied and was accepted to The Ohio State University.
Greg Luk, Houston ‘16
Greg spent nine years in the military working as a combat medic across Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Halfway through his Asian studies degree at the University of Texas at Austin, he decided to pursue a career in dentistry. He had entered college with a goal of returning to government service, but decided he wanted a career that didn’t involve being overseas for months away from family and friends. At 28, he began dental school at the UT Health Science Center at Houston.
