This year, the theme of ASDA’s Annual Session was “Lights, Camera, ASDA!” It was an incredibly motivating week filled with programs that educated members on all aspects of dentistry. During the conference, I had the unique opportunity to network with dental students from all around the United States. As a predental, meeting dental students and hearing their advice is something that is invaluable and can help you through any uncertainties. Throughout the week, I also attended the House of Delegates meetings where issues are debated and association policy is set. It is compelling to hear and understand the issues facing the future of our profession and what we as students are doing to make a positive change.
On Saturday, ASDA hosted a three-hour predental workshop where we had the opportunity to hear from current dental students about their paths to dental school, how they chose their school, interview tips and a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a dental student. Following the speakers, we participated in a mock interview where we were able to put their advice into action.
The Annual Session is a special event to me because it is a time where we are surrounded by like-minded students with the same goal. As a dental or predental student, there are times when school can be challenging. The Annual Session motivates and reminds me of my passion for dentistry and all of the blessings that come with it.
