CHICAGO — Pinkesh Shah, Marquette University School of Dentistry ’17, has been selected by the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) Board of Trustees as the recipient of the 2016 Memorial Award. The award is presented to an ASDA member who has made significant contributions to his chapter and inspired other members to action.
Previously called the Ryan Turner Memorial Scholarship, the Memorial Award honors the memory of all ASDA members who have passed away during dental school, including recent leaders Jiwon Lee and Ryan Turner. It recognizes leadership and commitment to ASDA’s core values of passion, community, engagement and integrity.
In his three years at Marquette, Shah has served as D1 class representative and chapter president. At the district level, he has served as both communications chair and chapter services chair. He presented a session at the 2014 ASDA District 6/7 joint meeting and has been a panelist on national ASDA webinars. Shah has also established new programs and committees focused on health and wellness, sustainability and advocacy for dental students at Marquette. Last week, he was elected to serve a one-year term as District 7 trustee to ASDA’s Board of Trustees.
“I have had the privilege of getting to know and work alongside Pinkesh in the past three years. I have observed his unbelievable work ethic, passion for ASDA and contagious personality. He has served in numerous ASDA positions, most notably, president for Marquette ASDA where he has taken an already-strong chapter and made it even stronger,” said Erin Fraundorf, Louisville ’16, 2015-16 District 7 trustee. “Pinkesh not only leads his chapter, but he empowers peers and future leaders on a daily basis. He is most deserving of the Memorial Award."
Shah received his award during the 2016 Gold Crown Awards ceremony at ASDA’s 46th Annual Session on March 4, 2016, in Dallas, Texas.
