Why do you want to be a dentist? Throughout undergrad I explored other careers in healthcare and dentistry was the field that I could use creativity while providing a service to those in need. Growing up I always had a great experience at the dentist, so after shadowing the choice was pretty easy!
What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader? I believe the most vital quality in a leader is to be assertive. People are more likely to follow and respect individuals that do not have wishy-washy leadership.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in dental school so far? You cannot do it alone! I have learned a majority of learning comes from your classmates, upperclassmen and patients. Not to mention the support of family and friends to share the highs and lows of being in a demanding professional program.
What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done? In undergrad I lived abroad in Brazil for an internship for 3 months. I grew up in a very small rural town, and this was my first time out of the country alone. It was really hard living by myself in a foreign country but I was lucky enough to have great coworkers that were patient and always invited me to their home for dinner!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? My mom always says, “Do the right things, for the right reasons, you get the right results.” I can hear that quote every time I have a decision to make and I feel like its my mother guiding me to be the best version on myself.
