Why do you want to be a dentist?
I want to go into dentistry because I see it as the perfect intersection between medicine and artistry. After having shadowed many different types of healthcare providers, I was amazed at how much skill and manual dexterity goes into dental care -- this is what sets dentistry apart for me! I also love the community that dentists, dental students and predentals have built for themselves through organized dentistry, and that they really support each other and work together to better their profession.
What are you most nervous about for dental school?
I’m most nervous about finding the balance between working hard and still taking time to unwind and have fun. Because you have to learn and practice hand skills on top of studying, dental school will definitely be a challenge! However, I know I’ll have new classmates to study with and to adventure with, and that will make the transition from college to dental school so much easier.
Why do you think you’ll make a good dentist?
I think I’ll make a good dentist because I love to meet and talk with new people! A lot of people are really afraid of the dentist, but being personable and caring can make all the difference for a nervous patient. One of the things I’m really excited for is to build trusting relationships with my future patients, and I think being enthusiastic about delivering great care and making people smile brighter is the key to being a great dentist.
