Why do you want to be a dentist? I love dentistry because it is different than all other health fields. It combines science and art, two of my favorite subjects, and really requires you to have an eye for esthetics. You can truly change someone’s life in one appointment- whether you are helping them out of pain or making them feel more confident. I also love that I will have the opportunity to be my own boss and make my own hours in a way that allows me to be a successful health provider while also having a life and hobbies outside of work.
What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader? Passion. That is what will always keep you motivated, especially when times get tough. If you are not truly passionate about what you are a leader of, you will not be able to convince anyone else to be.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in dental school so far? Everyone you meet can teach you a lesson. Whether it is a patient, colleague, or faculty member, everyone comes from different backgrounds and can show you a new perspective on things.
What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done? Stood up to someone who was not treating me (and several others) right, and had been getting away with it for a long time.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? Always stay open-minded. You never know what opportunities you could miss out on if you limit yourself.
