It’s difficult to figure out how dentistry fits into the health care system, especially when looking at federal programs like Medicaid. The perceived complexity of the treatment and reimbursement processes within the Medicaid program can affect a dentist’s desire to treat this underserved population.
Not only is it important to understand the benefits of treating Medicaid patients in reducing barriers to care, but also to learn that treating this population doesn’t have to be burdensome or cost prohibitive in your practice. This session will provide an overview of the principles of Medicaid and the benefits of treating Medicaid patients, as well as debunk common misconceptions about treating this population.

Jessica Meeske, DDS; Missouri-Kansas City ’96; 1995-96 President
Dr. Jessica Meeske is the senior partner of Pediatric Dental Specialists of Greater Nebraska. A graduate of Hastings College and the University of Missouri-K.C. College of Dentistry, she completed further training in pediatrics and public health at the University of Iowa where she received her master’s in dental public health.
Dr. Meeske currently chairs the ADA’s Council on Advocacy for Access and Prevention and the Legislative Committee of the Nebraska Dental Association. She has given numerous lectures throughout the state on children’s oral health issues with specific emphasis on ensuring that all children have affordable access to dental care.
