How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills?
Within the numerous leadership roles I have taken on since high school, ASDA has been the largest and most demanding. However, I have grown an unbelievable amount and I would not trade my experience for the world. I have always sought to improve my leadership skills in numerous ways, but ASDA has pushed me to make drastic changes in the way I approach leading a team. I am so thankful for the camaraderie that ASDA has built – it has inspired me to give back just as much, and more than I have gained from the organization from career guidance to friendship and memories that will last my lifetime.

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
I think the most vital quality in a leader is the ability to make every member of the team feel seen and valued. ASDA would not and could not be ASDA without the teamwork that goes into every event and initiative. My favorite aspect of ASDA is involving the incoming students to become involved and continue the legacy of ASDA because there is so much to gain, but great things require hard work. Making every chapter member a part of the story is crucial in allowing the legacy to live on.

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions?
ASDA has been by far the most challenging yet rewarding leadership position I have taken on in my academic career. An ASDA chapter requires an incredible amount of collaboration and coordination and every member has the opportunity to be a part of a mission to advance in our career together, give back to our community, and lead changes in our field.

What future leadership roles in organized denstiry interest you and why?
I am interested in joining my state and local dental societies because I think it is important to be connected to colleagues and work together to improve our field. There is always room for improvement both within our workspace, but also in society. I think the hub for improvement is organized dentistry and the new leaders of each generation that step up and deliver initiatives to improve the overall health of our communities.
