National Leadership Positions

ASDA introduces students to organized dentistry and provides opportunities to develop leadership skills. National leaders are responsible for furthering ASDA’s mission and completing tasks aligned with the council or committee mission.

ASDA national leaders have gone on to serve on ADA’s New Dentist Committee, state and local societies and as presenters at ASDA, ADA and Academy of General Dentistry national meetings.

Leadership Application Instructions

Applications for the 2021-22 leadership cycle are now open.

Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, Dec. 13. Materials submitted after the deadline will not be considered.

District trustee applications will open on Dec. 18 and are due by 11:59 p.m. CST on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.

For the 2021-22 leadership year, you have the unique opportunity to serve the Association like never before. With missions and duties shifting to address a changing world, your ingenuity and creativity will help to continue pushing ASDA ahead.

To promote the health, safety and wellbeing of leaders, meetings will be held virtually through July 2021. Full details can be found below under the Meeting Attendance Requirements section.

You must be an active ASDA predoctoral member. Read through the position descriptions below before starting the application process by logging into MyASDA and selecting “Apply for 2021-22 Leadership Positions.” From there, you can submit an application.

Meeting Attendance Requirements

National leaders must be able to participate fully in council business via email, meet deadlines, and attend all council calls (whether it be virtual or in-person). 

Meetings with an asterisk will be conducted virtually. You are still expected to virtually attend the meetings associated with your position. Please review the dates carefully before applying.

If any meetings scheduled after July 2021 are to be held in-person, leaders will be given at least 30 days’ notice. Funding for required in-person meetings includes: transportation to/from meetings, meals, hotel accommodations, a per diem based on the length of the meeting and reimbursement for baggage fees. 

Orientation & Leadership Training

ASDA national leaders are introduced to their new role through an orientation program including:

  • Overview of ASDA organizational structure, standing rules, policies and procedures
  • Training on how to become an effective team member
  • Resources for how to make strategic decisions and manage conflict
  • Mentorship from ASDA staff and other leaders in organized dentistry
