Oral hygiene education and preventive dental care are effective and inexpensive ways to improve thequality of a patient’s life. Dental schools and dental students have the unique ability to do so for traditionally underserved populations. This grant is generously supported by Colgate.

Purpose of the Grant
This grant is intended to support ASDA chapters in their development and implementation of a new program or event that focuses on prevention of dental disease and/or promotion of oral health for any underserved population within their communities.

Any submission that does not provide the online application, letter of intent and projected budget will not be considered.

Criteria and eligibility:
  • The grant money will subsidize a program or event that focuses on prevention of dental disease and/or promotion of oral health for underserved populations.
  • As Colgate is the sponsor of this grant, only supplies provided directly by Colgate may be used in conjunction with the event. 
  • Winning chapters may request oral health supplies directly from Colgate using this form. Submit the form via email attachment to the academic relations manager for your school or Requests must be submitted a minimum of six weeks prior to the project date. Please allow five business days to receive a response to your request.
  • The application organizer cannot be a national leader.
  • Participants must follow ASDA’s policy on Dental Outreach Programs (B-8).
  • All funded outreach events must take place before Oct. 1, 2018.
  • Following completion of the event, grant recipients must submit a report on the template provided by Oct. 15, 2018. The report should include 3-5 high-resolution photos suitable for publication. Photos and excerpts from the report may be used in ASDA publications. 
  • Chapter grantees are strongly encouraged to work with the ASDA Editorial Board and contribute an ASDA blog article in fall 2018 (prior to the application deadline for the next round of grantees).

  • Jan. 10, 2018: Applications and supporting materials due to ASDA central office
  • Feb. 9, 2018: Grant recipients announced via email
  • Acknowledgement at Annual Session
  • March 2018: Grant check distributed
  • June 1, 2018: Interim report/check in due to Council on Professional Issues chair
  • Oct. 1, 2018: Outreach event must take place before this date
  • Oct. 15, 2018: Outreach event report due to ASDA central office
