How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills?
ASDA has been a valuable aid for not only building but also solidifying my leadership skills. During my time on the board, I have learned to be more communicative in a manner that is concise and organized. This drives efficiency and makes planning events/meetings more seamless. By drawing in skills such as these, I have been able to extend them in multiple areas of my life.

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
The most vital quality in a leader for me is the ability to recognize each person’s unique strengths and highlight them, while simultaneously providing opportunities for their weaknesses to improve. Finding this balance is crucial in a leader. Through this balance, you are able to show your team members that they are seen, heard, and cared for. The most important part of leadership is believing in your team.

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions?
Members should become involved in ASDA leadership positions because it helps them become productive members of the dental community through a robust network and knowledge base. Aside from all of the networking opportunities and making connections with dental students nationwide, you learn quite a bit about yourself and how your opinions/thoughts affect our profession in the future.

What future leadership roles in organized denstiry interest you and why?
I hope to apply the skills and experience I’ve gained in my future with the ADA. Ultimately, I would love to be involved in the advocacy side of dentistry, to help establish foundational moments that will push an agenda to improve the future of dentistry. Thus, improving these aspects of the field will help offer solutions that are in the best interests of the clinicians and patients.
