Why do you want to be a dentist?
Pursuing a degree in dentistry as a first generation Latina college student would give me the ability to connect with my Latino community in a more impactful manner. I hope to diversify the field of medicine by setting an example for future generations. I want to pursue dentistry to bridge the gap between underserved communities and access to care, and to be the representation individuals need to feel confident and understood during their dental treatments, by creating a positive and collaborative patient experience.

What are you most excited about for dental school?
I am most excited to be able to create relationships with professors and other peers while gaining clinical knowledge and further developing my leadership skills and hand skills through clinical work. I really look forward to learning how to use a handpiece and work with my hands, while giving back to the community.

Why do you think you’ll make a good dentist?
As a practicing dental assistant since 2013, my attention to detail has helped me better empathize with individuals while learning compassion and developing my communication skills through my exposure to different demographics of patients. I think having the ability to demonstrate compassion and comfortably communicate while making individuals feel confident in their care is what would make me a good dentist.

What excites you most about ASDA?
ASDA is a collaborative platform that offers great opportunities and resources to students. It is exciting to be part of a nationwide student organization which provides a large amount of support for individuals who are passionate about pursuing a career in dentistry.
