How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills? ASDA has provided me with many opportunities to exchange ideas with colleagues who also have a passion for organized dentistry. This has opened many doors by allowing me to explore new possibilities as a leader and continue improving my skills every day. 

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader? The most vital quality in a leader is transparency. A leader must be able to build trust within their team and that starts at the top. Transparency allows relationships within the team to grow naturally and for issues to be prevented or resolved more quickly by improving communication. 

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions? Getting involved with ASDA leadership provides members with opportunities to build friendships, improve leadership skills, and learn about topics that are not taught in a classroom. This provides a new perspective on dentistry which, for me, has been truly invaluable. 

What future leadership roles in organized dentistry interest you and why? I am interested in getting more involved with my state’s dental association once I have graduated so that I can continue advocating for patients and my colleagues. I am excited to drive the profession toward a direction that allows for oral health to be treated in the same manner as general health by insurance companies and away from the perspective that dentistry is a luxury reserved for those who can afford it.
