Drowning in student loan debt, small business loans and credit cards, Dr. Matt Krieger came to the difficult realization that his biggest financial problem was not the interest rate on his loans, but rather the man looking back at him in the mirror.

After taking responsibility for his financial choices he began to study and learn how to eliminate debt, how to properly manage (and actually enjoy) a monthly budget and ultimately how to build wealth.

Today, Dr. Krieger and his wife and are on an exciting adventure together to conquer their finances. Dr. Krieger is the author of The Broke Doctor, a blog that serves to document their transformative financial journey, keep them accountable, and educate and inspire those around them.

Dr. Matt Krieger

Dr. Matthew Krieger is a practicing oral & maxillofacial surgeon in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Krieger completed his oral & maxillofacial surgery residency at Christiana Care Hospital, in Wilmington, Delaware. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine.

Following residency, Dr. Matt Krieger did what many young doctors do. He took out a hefty small business loan to start a practice. Soon, he found the combined weight of credit cards, student loans, car payments and practice loan payments to be crushing.

From personal experience, and by observing many of his peers and colleagues, Dr. Krieger came to the conclusion that there is a financial crisis in dentistry: broke doctors. Since then, he has made the hard decision to drastically change his behavior and views on finances. He openly shares his journey of transformation (still in progress) from broke and stressed to wealthy and focused in The Broke Doctor blog, in an effort to educate young dentists about the pitfalls of undisciplined financial behavior.

Christian Pearson

Christian Pearson is Treloar& Heisel's national director of partnerships. In this capacity, he oversees outreach to general dentistry programs throughout the country, through which he can deliver Treloar & Heisel’s experience in the financial services needs of dental and medical professionals. Pearson develops business symposia, lectures and other educational events to help launch students’ dental careers on a solid foundation.

Pearson earned degrees in communications, business administration and economics from Eastern Illinois University. He and his wife Ann-Marie are both dedicated animal lovers and founders of a rescue program called Dogma. They live in Tampa, Florida, with their three daughters.
