How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills?
ASDA has significantly shaped my leadership by giving me meaningful, hands-on opportunities to grow. As Chapter President, I learned how to guide a diverse executive board, manage large projects, and make decisions that impact our entire chapter. Through organizing events, advocating for student needs, and collaborating with district and national leaders, I strengthened my communication, delegation, and problem-solving skills. ASDA taught me how to lead with responsibility, empathy, and intention skills I will carry throughout my career.

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
I believe the most vital quality in a leader is empathy. Empathetic leaders understand the people they serve they listen, they recognize individual strengths and challenges, and they create an environment where everyone feels valued. When a leader leads with empathy, decision-making becomes more thoughtful and communication becomes more effective. It builds trust, strengthens collaboration, and empowers others to grow. Ultimately, empathy allows a leader to inspire people not just through direction, but through connection and genuine support.

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions?
Members should get involved with ASDA leadership positions because it’s one of the most impactful ways to grow personally and professionally during dental school. Leadership roles allow you to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and learn how to work with a diverse team. You gain hands-on experience planning events, advocating for student interests, and shaping the culture of your chapter. Beyond that, ASDA leadership creates lifelong friendships and opens doors to district and national opportunities that elevate your career well beyond school. It’s an investment in your growth, your network, and your future as a dentist.

What future leadership roles in organized dentistry interest you and why?
I’m interested in pursuing future leadership roles that allow me to advocate for dentistry on a larger scale. Beyond ASDA District or National positions and future involvement in the ADA or CDA, I hope to take on roles that give dentistry a stronger voice globally. I’m particularly drawn to opportunities to collaborate with organizations like the WHO and eventually contribute to discussions at the United Nations level. I want to advocate for oral health as an essential part of overall health, promote access to care, and help shape global policies that support underserved populations. These roles align with my long-term passion for service, leadership, and elevating the impact of our profession worldwide.
