Legislative Action Week (LAW) 2026

AS New Leaders

Shape the Future of Dentistry.

What Is Legislative Action Week?

Legislative Action Week (LAW) is a virtual, nationwide advocacy event where ASDA members engage in coordinated letter‑writing campaigns through ASDA Action. Students will learn about key legislation, contact their lawmakers and mobilize their peers to strengthen dentistry’s voice on Capitol Hill.

LAW 2026

ASDA’s inaugural Legislative Action Week challenged members to take action on bills on student debt, fluoride and access to care.

REDI Act:

H.R. 2028/S. 942, the Resident Education Deferred Interest (REDI) Act would defer interest and payments on federal students during residency programs. Dental students graduate with an average of $312,000 in student debt. The REDI Act would allow students to pursue a residency program without worrying about the additional burden of accrued interest.

Protect Our TEETH Act:

H.R. 4556, the Protect Our Treatment for Enamel, Erosion, and Tooth Health (TEETH) Act, would require any new federal water fluoridation recommendations to be backed by nonpartisan, science-backed evidence. More than 80 years of research support the safety and effectiveness of fluoride as a mineral to prevent dental caries.

Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act

H.R. 3277/S. 1677, the Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act (ELSA) would require insurance companies to cover medically necessary procedures for facial birth defects. These procedures are often considered cosmetic although they can be imperative for children’s ability to breathe, speak, and eat normally.

District Advocacy Competition

Congratulations to District 9 for recruiting 176 advocates during Legislative Action Week! ASDA districts across the country engaged 478 advocates on key issues impacting dental students and the future of the profession.
