The ASDA Council on Communications is responsible for creating and disseminating information via various media channels. The council reviews content on the ASDA website and guides digital initiatives. The council acts as a resource for and promotes chapter communication efforts.

The Council comprises one chair, two council associates and two video production managers. 

The council chair supervises and directs the activities of the council and facilitates council meetings. At the end of their term, chairs attend ASDA's Annual Session.

Council associates serve as members of the council and participate in all council activities. 

Video production managers film and produce videos that focus on topics of interest to dental students and predentals. Videos will advance the goals of the council, strategic plan and House of Delegate resolutions.

Council on Communications Chair Duties

Serves the association as the content expert in the area of communications. Manages communications between ASDA’s leadership and membership.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must be an active predoctoral member at the time of application and throughout the term of office.
  2. Must be able to attend all required meetings below.
  3. Must be able to complete assignments and responsibilities by established deadlines.
  4. Experience serving on the Council on Communications is strongly preferred.

Duties

  • Supervises the activities of the Council on Communications; reports directly to the Board of Trustees.
  • Mentors council associates.
  • Reviews the content on the ASDA website; keeps other councils accountable for updates.
  • Oversees all digital initiatives including ASDA’s website and videos.
  • Develops and monitors new media initiatives with staff and oversees ASDA’s Facebook page and social media presence.
  • Acts as a resource for chapter communication efforts (e.g., chapter newsletters and websites).
  • Researches and/or completes any project or House of Delegates resolution assigned to him/her by the Board of Trustees.
  • May be appointed to serve as ASDA’s representative to an ADA council.
  • Submits a year-end continuity report.
  • Submits post-meeting reports when representing ASDA at outside meetings.
  • Provides content for association publications and media as requested.

Council on Communications Associate Duties

Serves as a member of a council and contributes to all assigned work.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must be an active predoctoral member at the time of application and throughout the term of office.
  2. Must be able to attend all required meetings below as well as participate in any conference calls deemed necessary by the chair.
  3. Must be able to complete assignments and responsibilities by established deadlines.

Duties

  • Serves as a member of the association’s councils and/or task forces.
  • Performs duties as assigned by the council chair.
  • May chair a task force.
  • Serves as an association content expert in the field of the council assigned.
  • Regularly reports progress on assigned projects to council chair and staff liaison.
  • Provides content for association publications and media as requested.

Video Production Manager Duties

Serves as a member of the Council on Communications. Films and produces videos that focus on topics of interest to dental students and predentals.

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Must be an active predoctoral member at the time of application and throughout the term of office.
  2. Must be able to attend all required meetings below and participate in any conference calls deemed necessary by the chair.
  3. Must complete assignments and responsibilities by established deadlines.
  4. Must have experience with filming and editing video. Must have access to video equipment and editing software. These will not be provided by ASDA.
  5. Must collaborate with other council members and staff.
