Dental students are only taught basic protocols for correctly administering anesthesia to patients. It is through years of practice that dentists become more comfortable and competent with these procedures. During this session students will learn the tips and tricks to accurately and painlessly deliver anesthetic that took dentist’s years to learn on their own.

Overview

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the differences between local anesthetics and what clinical situations to use each.
  2. Identify anatomic landmarks to help orient student to the injection site.
  3. Better communicate with patients to help ease anxiety surrounding anesthesia administration.
  4. Recognize when full anesthesia has not been achieved and how to approach subsequent injections differently.
Panelist

Randall KenKen Randall, DDS; Kentucky ’12; 2011-12 Vice President

A former ASDA national Vice President, Dr. Ken Randall graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry in 2012. He then completed a general practice residency at the University of Alabama, Birmingham (UAB) where he remains an adjunct instructor. Dr. Randall is in full time private practice in Chattanooga, TN, where he also maintains privileges within the Erlanger Hospital system.
