Have you heard of ASDA’s F-4 Student Debt Policy or E-12 Medicaid Patients Policy, but not sure exactly what they mean? This session will explore how ASDA policies come to exist and the process of how you can turn your idea into a policy that ASDA stands behind. Using examples, this session will then discuss how these policies drive ASDA’s advocacy efforts to effect real world change.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify what ASDA policies are and how they are organized.
  2. Learn the process of how a resolution becomes association policy.
  3. Explore opportunities to submit a resolution.
  4. Understand why associations adopt policy.
  5. Discover how ASDA uses policies to drive advocacy efforts.

Ariana-MotavalliAriana Motavalli

Ariana Motavalli is from the Bay Area, California and is currently a fourth-year dental student at UCLA School of Dentistry. In dental school, Ariana has been heavily involved in ASDA because she loves the leadership opportunities and personal development that it provides to dental students. Ariana hopes to pursue pediatric dentistry in the future, and her passions include playing tennis, watching sports, hiking, and eating yummy foods.







Nick-KoutrakisNick Koutrakis

Nick Koutrakis is ASDA’s 2022-23 Speaker of the House and a fourth-year dental student at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Before stepping up to the national level, he was highly active in District 2 as Chief of Staff and Programming Chair. Nick grew up in Massachusetts and attended undergrad at Washington University in St. Louis where he studied mechanical engineering. In his free time, he enjoys photography, watching basketball, music, and learning about architecture.




Nicole-AndersonNicole Anderson

Nicole Anderson is a third year student at the UCLA School of Dentistry. She currently serves as the ASDA District 11 Trustee, the ASDA Board of Trustees Liaison to the Council on Advocacy, and the UCLA ASDA Chapter Vice President. She is originally from Camarillo, CA. She now resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two cats. In her downtime, she enjoys playing tennis, walking, cooking, and traveling.
