How has ASDA helped you build your leadership skills?
Over the past year, my involvement in ASDA, particularly in my role as Michigan’s Chapter President, has been instrumental in honing and expanding my leadership skills. This position has provided me with a platform to focus on collaboration, delegation and fostering an environment that encourages inclusiveness for all ASDA members. In addition to these skills, ASDA has exposed me to the transformative power of using my voice as a leader. Learning from professionals and engaging in discussion on critical issues has not only expanded my understanding of the dental profession, but also instilled in me the importance of advocacy as a catalyst for change.

What do you think is the most vital quality in a leader?
A vital quality that distinguishes an exceptional leader is active listening. In my perspective, this attribute is key in navigating the complexities of leadership, especially in ASDA. Listening goes beyond the act of hearing, but rather understanding diverse perspectives, ideas and concerns that individuals bring to the table. Beyond being a leader in dental school, the importance of listening extends into the future role of a dental professional.

Why should members get involved with ASDA leadership positions?
Participating in ASDA leadership positions early on is extremely important for members as it offers various opportunities for professional and personal growth. These roles serve as a unique platform for skill management, fostering connections, not only within local chapters but also at a national level. Leadership roles enhance the visibility within the dental community, potentially opening doors to mentorship, career opportunities, and recognition. Overall, involvement in ASDA leadership positions early on lays the groundwork for a fulfilling and impactful journey in the dental profession.

What future leadership roles in organized denstiry interest you and why?
My passion for organized dentistry propels me towards envisioning future leadership roles within my state’s dental associations. This would allow me to contribute to the well-being of my community through service and advocacy ensuring that their voices are heard as I help shape dental policies and practices. Moreover, connecting with local dentists through such a role would create a collaborative network where shared insights and experiences contribute to the advancement of dental care in our region.
