Resolved, that ASDA's Current Statements of Position or Policy 'C-2 Functions of Dental Providers (2014, revised 2018)' be amended to read:
The American Student Dental Association believes that
licensed dental hygienists, dental therapists, and expanded function dental hygienists, under the supervision of a dentist, the dentist is the only dental provider that should perform the following functions.
- Examination,
D diagnosis and treatment planning
- Prescribing work authorizations within their scope of practice
- Performing surgical/irreversible dental procedures within their scope of practice
- Prescribing drugs and/or other medications
