Background
The GWG determined that application materials for official candidates help delegates decide if candidates are prepared for office. Application materials also verify candidates’ academic good standing. The GWG recommends that nominees from the floor submit application materials to the ASDA Executive Director prior to the First House of Delegates Meeting. This will ensure that all candidates are in academic good standing and that delegates have the necessary information to vote on officers. 

The GWG agreed that write-in candidates should not be eligible for election because they won’t have submitted application materials by the first House of Delegates Meeting; therefore, be it
 
Resolution
Resolved, that Bylaws Article VII. Elections, Section 1. Candidacy be amended to read as follows:

Section 1. Candidacy

A. Official Candidate

An eligible member wishing to be an official candidate for the Executive Committee, speaker of the House of Delegates or district trustee must submit an application and required materials to the executive director by the established deadline. Official Executive Committee or speaker of the House candidates are named on the ASDA website at least three weeks prior to the Annual Session, receive formal district caucusing privileges and have their has his/her names printed on ballots.

B. Nominations from the FloorWrite in Candidate

Nominees from the floor must submit application materials electronically to the Executive Director prior to the first meeting of the House of Delegates. These materials will be posted online by the end of the day. Write-in candidates for the Executive Committee or speaker of the House of Delegates are permitted. Nominees from the floor will be placed on the ballot. A write-in candidate Nominees from the floor are is not considered an official candidates for office and is are not entitled to the privileges of an official candidates. Nominees from the floor are A write-in candidate is no longer an eligible candidates once they he/she does not advance to a subsequent ballot. Write-in candidates for the Executive Committee or speaker of the House of Delegates are not permitted.
