So you have an ASDA chapter with an established advocacy program. Maybe your chapter has even tried some of the events from the “Beginner Track”. If your goal is to get your chapter even more involved in advocacy with ASDA, consider some of the following ideas.
How do I get started?
Reach out to your legislative coordinator for guidance on how to expand your advocacy program.
What events should I hold?
- Your chapter may decide to host an advocacy academy to train members on a broad range of issues and how to lobby at the state government level. Generally, these events are half-day or full-day sessions that feature multiple speakers.
- Consult page 5 of How to Promote Chapter Advocacy for additional information about how to host an advocacy academy at your chapter.

What events should I encourage my chapter members to attend?
State lobby day
- Work with your state or local dental society to get students involved in their lobby day. Organize a bus to transport the students to the capitol and ask the state or local dental society leaders to provide training on how to lobby and what issues are of importance.
- Consult page 7 of How To Promote Chapter Advocacy for additional information.
